Flick Pick of the Week: Monsters

It’s a hard film to place one specific genre to it. Thriller, Sci-Fi, Drama, a great mix of them all. A fantastic beginning/end to this film. You will surprised with this one, not what you expect at all. Also, hard to believe, but a low budget film.

Flick Pick of the Week: Son of Rambow

So many different people will love this film. Take baseball out of  “The Sandlot” and insert making a movie. And also add British accents to the kids. Brings you back to being a kid, running around with wild imaginations. A funny and original comedy.

Flick Pick of the Week: Winter’s Bone

Jennifer Lawrence shows why she is going to be around a long, long time with this fantastic film. After watching this, you’ll see why she got the part in The Hunger Games. Nothing bad about this film. Grabs you from the very beginning and doesn’t let go. Great screenplay with some amazing performances. Wish more films like this.

Flick Pick of the Week: Timecrimes

A low-budget Spanish indy film. It’s a great take on the Time Machine genre. Actually, highly quirky and with great dark twists. I wasn’t sure while watching it if they could find a savvy enough ending. The filmmakers proved me wrong here, I wasn’t disappointed.

Flick Pick of the Week: Moon

I’m always surprised by how many people have not seen this. Sam Rockwell kills every role he’s in but he carries this entire film. Plus, you get to listen to Kevin Spacey ‘s smooth peanut butter voice as the robot.

Flick Pick of the Week: The Brothers Bloom

Cool con film. Even though Adrien Brody is the lead, Mark Ruffalo steals the show. A ton of twists and turns, maybe one too many, but it works with the quirky characters. Clever ending. So far I’m a fan of every film by Director Rian Johnson.

Flick Pick of the Week: The Cooler

Little darker than what the trailer hints at, but an unusual plot & quirky. William H Macy does a a good job as the lead. However, Alec Baldwin steals the film as this might be his most underrated work ever. I’d recommend it to someone just for his part.

Flick Pick of the Week: The Wages of Fear

Yes it’s a French film, yes it’s in subtitles, and yes it’s really old (1953). But get some culture in you and tell me some of the suspense scenes doesn’t have you holding your breath. The ending will either leave you laughing or with your jaw on the floor.

Flick Pick of the Week: The Grey

I watched this last year, and it made a huge impression on me.  A man just wants to get home to see his family, and is upended by a plane crash, wolves, and nature.
It was never going to win any Oscars, but it was going to win over a lot of people who like Liam Neeson.

Flick Pick of the Week: Safety Not Guaranteed

Totally surprised by this film. Knew going in the cast is great, but knew nothing about the plot. I was sucked in after 15 minutes and was texting my sister that she needed to see this asap. Mark Duplass best acting job so far. Jack Johnson and Aubrey Plaza were hysterical.

Flick Pick of the Week: Sexy Beast

Ben Kingsley is a madman in this. He would seriously leave you peeing your pants and sucking your thumb in the corner by the end of it.

Flick Pick of the Week: The King of Kong - Fistful of Quarters

A great documentary about this David versus Goliath matchup in the gamer world. In this specific case, Donkey Kong. Not sure about you, but I could never get pass the third level. Stupid elevators.
